My Pioneer Wedding =Didn't get much money/gifts from invited Brothers!

didn't have much money...everyone wanted to come, so i reluctantly invited many.

we had lots of good food and nice bottles of wine, white and red.

so it cost a bit to set up....my soon to be wife said: "don't worry, your a pioneer, i'm sure the brothers will be generous with their gifts!

Witnesses are so restricted as to parties and especially large gatherings that they really turn out for weddings expecting to be entertained. The weddings of witnesses are often quite large too as they may know people from several congos and the home congo all expect to be invited. It can become quite a burden to feed and entertain all these people.

I have seen a few weddings that were kept small with only really close family and friends invited. I think I would prefer this to a huge reception. Sorry your friends were not more generous, but dubs are known for their cheapness.

I went to a relative's weding recently and they had a $5 dance with bride and groom going for quite some time. Some people went through the line 2 or 3x. I was beginning to wonder whether this was a wedding reception or a business operation. They said they were trying to get enough money to go to the Carribean in a few weeks. Don't know if they made it or not.

I agree that celebrating with a few really close friends that you love dearly is better than these huge weddings. The focus needs to be on the celebration and not finances for both the wedding party and the guests.

Anyone know the differences in the public system in Canada vs. Germany? Just curious. I have heard really good things about health care in Germany and not so good in Canada. In both countries all are covered though.

The US healthcare system is very much broken, but exactly how to fix it is a difficult problem.

I remember experiences where a dub would ask someone they had assissted in some way to listen to the next jw that came to their door. This has been promoted at conventions for a long time. This poor guy is a poster child for the dubs.

I agree that after an unexpected loss of life people are in a state of shock. It is dealing with the permanence of the situation over time that brings out the reality of things. It has a wearing down effect that forces a person to go through the grieving process.

i have a friend who has been at beth-hell since early in 1971. he is arthritic and went one time too many to the infirmary and finds himself with no job, no education, and no benefits after nearly 40 years working his butt off at brooklyn then at patterson.....please help me spread this video around.. thanks kids!.

Good video! Sad though. The society are like repeating abusers. They suck the best out of one generation of youths after another. They promise a fake paradise and that old age is not something to even plan for. They have never taken care of the poor or elderly and are glad to point them to government services, the same governments they describe as evil.

The video from the convention even goes as far as to say it is evil to help the sick and poor rather than carry on their sick and twisted waste of life and time. How can the dubs continue to look at these dramas and not see the glaring hypocrisy and outright meanness of being told not to waste time on helping the sick and poor ones?

As far as the the society cares, the sick can take care of themselves, the hungry can starve and the old can suffer and die alone. They have washed their hands of all of it. They have totally forgotten what the bible, that they claim to follow, really requires.

Why a college education is bad

Discouraging their followers from going to college and making it a faith issue is very cultish. Many college educated people in the congregation are often looked up to as they often have more responsible and challenging careers. I can't help but feel all this demonizing of education will come back to haunt them in the near future.

I feel sorry for the young ones that listen to their advice. Surely, there are parents who still encourage their kids to go to college. I know young dubs who are in graduate school and even going for their doctorate. They can only keep people ignorant for so long.

was told that if you are the sort of person that cant handle changes, you wont stay in the org for long.

It was kinda like telling a 2 year old not to eat the cookie in front of him and then leaving the room. No, wait, Eve was less experienced than the 2 year old child. Still, the child would have to pay with his life and thousands of generations would be doomed to suffering and death. Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?

New version of "Shining as illuminators"?

maybe even the latest updated version when the "school" was revised a couple of years ago?

Thanks for the scan. I remember how excited I was to get the "secret" book and attend the school. Talk about a huge disappointment! Both the school and the book are a total waste of time. The only thing that was good was the meals provided by the hard working womenfolk.

more than 2 years ago, i spoke at lengh about my main problems with the organisation, the things which made me unhappy to be a jw.

one of these was the amount of meetings we have to attend.

she told me i was being critical & that we need the meetings.

Funny how they don't care about the burden until next year. Why wait another 6 months? If they really want to ease some hardships on the rank and file, why not do away with door to door. It is a total waste of time and gas.

Just keep mentioning things you know are going to change (usually from here) before they announce them. Don't make a big deal about it when the announcement comes and you will have her wondering how you always seem to know. Maybe that will help her think a little.

I don't know how old your children are, but when they get into the typical problems of teenagers, it is really crazy what the elders guilt them about. The way to a mother's heart is how you treat her children. Definately, a wake-up call for me. Hopefully, for your wife also.
